The starting point
Start with the bin and the waste, then record bag dimensions, closure, thickness and tolerance. Nominal litres, colour or the word “heavy duty” cannot establish fit or performance on their own.
Measure the bin and name the bag dimensions.
Record the bin opening, height and shape, including any rim or fittings. Send a sketch or photograph with measurements. For the bag, state length × width in centimetres and identify whether the dimensions describe flat film, a folded bag or a gusseted construction.
Allow the supplier to confirm the finished dimensions and a sample fit, including the material needed at the base and over the rim. This guide does not calculate a guaranteed fit from litres.
Compare the actual catalogue starting points.
| Format | Table dimensions | Bags / pack | Nominal capacity on packaging |
|---|---|---|---|
| Handle-tie | 45 × 60 cm | 90 | 25 L |
| Drawstring | 45 × 50 cm | 75 | 20 L |
These are catalogue and packaging values. They do not establish a load limit. Compare the six garbage-bag SKUs or describe a custom requirement.
Specify thickness together with tolerance.
Write the target in microns (µm) and agree a tolerance. For example, a requested 25 µm ±5% gives an arithmetic interval of 23.75–26.25 µm. This is an example requirement, not the measured thickness or tolerance of a 4Season product.
One micron is 0.001 mm. One mil is 0.001 inch, equal to 25.4 µm. A mil is not a millimetre. Use the specification planner to convert units and prepare a brief.
Define what the sample must demonstrate.
Describe the expected contents, handling and closure. If load, leakage or puncture behaviour matters, agree the test method, conditions, sample quantity and acceptance criteria with the supplier. Material, construction and manufacturing also matter; thickness alone is not a performance certificate.
- Check the sample against the dimensioned specification.
- Confirm closure, roll perforation and pack count where applicable.
- Record the agreed test conditions and approved artwork with the order.
