HDPE vs LDPE Trash Bags: What Buyers Should Specify

The starting point

Choose a trash bag material against the waste and handling task, then agree dimensions, construction and sample checks. HDPE, LDPE and LLDPE are not interchangeable labels. The current 4Season garbage-bag catalogue records PE only; request confirmation before assigning a specific grade to a SKU.

Separate the resin name from the performance claim.

HDPE means high-density polyethylene, LDPE means low-density polyethylene and LLDPE means linear low-density polyethylene. A generic PE description does not tell a buyer which grade or blend was used. Ask for the proposed formulation category rather than filling this gap from the colour, feel or thickness of a photograph.

WAXIE’s can-liner guidance associates high-density liners with smoother waste and easier transport, and linear or low-density liners with rougher contents and more demanding handling. This is a selection starting point, not a load rating for a 4Season bag. Different formulations, seals and constructions still require an agreed sample assessment.

Write an application brief before choosing a grade.

For example, an office-bin brief and a food-service collection brief may require different sample checks even when the quoted bag volume is the same. Describe your actual task. Do not treat a household bag as approved for hazardous waste or sharp objects because a material guide mentions puncture resistance.

Put thickness and acceptance conditions on the same sheet.

Specify thickness in a named unit and ask how it will be measured. One mil equals 25.4 microns; mil and millimetre are not the same unit. If suppliers quote in different units, convert them before comparing. A requested tolerance must also be agreed, not inferred from a product name.

Thickness alone cannot establish strength. Agree the intended load, contents, handling sequence, number of samples and pass criteria with the supplier. Record the result against the exact sample rather than writing “heavy duty” as the whole specification. The bag size and thickness guide covers measurements and the unit conversion in more detail.

Use the 4Season catalogue as a format reference.

0721nmDrawstring45 × 50 cm75

The packaging references show nominal capacities of 25 L and 20 L respectively. These values do not establish a load limit. The range includes lemon, rose and lavender references, but scent and colour do not identify a resin grade or a performance level.

When requesting an HDPE, LDPE or LLDPE version, state that as a proposed requirement. Ask which existing format can be used as a starting point, what needs to change and which sample should be evaluated.

Compare the confirmed specification, then the price.

Check that competing offers use the same dimensions, closure, material description, thickness basis and packing quantity. Keep price per bag separate from carton price; a cheaper carton may contain fewer bags or a different construction.

Compare the six current garbage-bag references and send the waste and handling requirements with your enquiry. Ask the supplier to identify any unconfirmed field before you approve a sample or artwork.
